Effective 4 December 2007, Aker American Shipping ASA (AKASA) has sold all its shares in the shipbuilding company Aker Philadelphia Shipyard. This completes the split of Aker American Shipping‘s ship owning and shipbuilding activities.

AKASA owns and leases world-class quality vessels for operation between ports in the United States. When the current series of twelve tankers is complete in 2011, AKASA will own the most modern product tanker fleet in the United States, and it will be the first company in the United States to own shuttle tankers for use in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
